4) What's with all these swim meets?...
March is a busy month due to all the Championships. At the most, individual swimmers should have 2 swim meet to attend. Here are some basic notes:
- AG Invite/Feb.28-Mar.2............must make qualifying times.
- TAC Excellence Meet/Mar.8-9.............full team meet for everyone.
- Senior Sectionals/Mar.12-16.................must make qualifying times (very fast, just a couple Senior-Gold kids).
- Age Group Regionals/Mar.20-23...............must make qualifying times.
- Divisionals/Mar.29-30...................no qualifying times (final championship meet of "short course season").
So we have two meets with no qualifying times and the rest require the swimmer make time standards outlined in the meet info for each meet.
Money is tight....of the two meets that do not have time standards, which is preferred?.....Divisionals at the end of the month; if you can do both, do it.
How do you know if you qualify for these meets?....you need to know 2 things:
1) Your current times.
2) What the qualifying time standard is for the swim meet.
With over 100 swimmers on the team, we need to train parents/swimmers to be able to manage the process of knowing your own times and being able to determine if you can sign-up for a swim meet. To watch a Coach Ben tutorial on this process, CLICK HERE.
You mention the term "short course"...what is that? Short course refers to the time period between Sept. and Mar. During this time all the swim meets are held in 25 yard pools (no and then a 25 meter pool). Final championships are held in March. Starting in April, we enter the "Long Course" season with many meets being held in 50 meter pools. At SRST we do our best to continue to find swim meets for our beginners to do in 25 yard pools. Championships for the Long Course season are in July/Aug.
At SRST our only big break happens with us taking most of Aug. off. We usually start back up swimming the second week in Sept. This is they typical break for all USA Swim Teams.
